We offer the following services in the City Of London Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA), including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). This is a statutory advocacy service to support vulnerable people who lack capacity and need to make important decisions but have no representatives as defined under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Relevant Person’s Paid Representative (RPPR), People being deprived of their liberty in care homes or hospitals (Relevant Persons) have a statutory right to have a representative to support them to exercise their rights under the Mental Capacity Act. If there are no appropriate, willing or able friends or family to take on this role a Paid Representative will be appointed. Advocacy under the Care Act, is for people who have been assessed as having substantial difficulty being involved in decisions about their care and support needs. If they do not have an appropriate friend or relative who can support them to understand and engage with the process they have a statutory right to an advocate under the Care Act. Independent Health Complaints Advocacy is a statutory service for people who need support to make a complaint about treatment funded by the NHS. How do I get support from an advocate? The Mental Capacity Act was 10 years old last month. POhWER advocates in the City of London held an event on the 27th of September in recognition of the Mental Capacity Act They held this event to inform people of how The Mental Capacity Act could effect your work and your family.
